Fluoride is not currently added to Bunbury’s water supply.
On request, in May 2000, AQWEST provided information to the Minister for Health about the level of fluoride in water after collecting samples from Bunbury’s six water treatment plants.
All of the plants have varying levels of naturally-occurring fluoride and this is continually monitored as part of a vigorous water quality testing program.
AQWEST CEO Brad Bevis said the Bunbury Water Board delivered residents safe and clean drinking water that met the standards set out by the Health Department of Western Australia.
“We understand the issue of adding fluoride to drinking water is of great interest to the community and has been for some time,” he said.
“Our role is simply to supply water that meets the guidelines set by health authorities in WA and if at any time those guidelines in relation to fluoride are changed by the Minister for Health, we will fall into line with those.”
