Aqwest - Bunbury Water Board
Save Water, Save Money

Start the AQWEST financial year on the right foot by keeping track of the amount of water you use each week.

By saving water you will save money, especially in summer when a large amount of water could be used in a short time.

For example, if you pour too much water onto your lawn and garden, in the space of a few weeks the amount you pay per kilolitre could jump from 41 cents to $1.00 or even higher.

You will then have to pay at least $1.00 for every kilolitre used for the rest of the year.

Reading Your Meter

Read your meter at the start of every week. Make it a project for your children. AQWEST uses a digital metric meter, which will show 6 or 7 numbers. The black figures indicate kilolitres and the red figure shows litres.

A kilolitre is 1000 litres. Mark your reading on the chart below. Use the black figures only.

Compare Your Consumption

Average annual domestic consumption in Bunbury with two day watering restrictions, is anticipated to be  approximately 290 kL. To achieve that level of consumption in your household, weekly and monthly consumption figures should be similar to the targets in the right hand column.

Waterwise Calculator

To use the Waterwise Calculator click here. This tool will assist you in estimating your water usage and comparing it against a Waterwise home.

The Waterwise Calculator asks you for the number of occupants in your house, the lawn and garden area and what type of appliances you have. It also asks whether you use non-scheme water. This information is then used to generate an estimation of your average daily water use and compares this against a Waterwise home. The presentation is graphical and interactive, so you can adjust your inputs and instantly see the changes and water savings you can make. Whilst your actual usage may differ due to behavioural and seasonal changes, the average figures given do provide a good indication of where and how you can save water.
